Little Winners article: HyoYeon Profile

As I will always preface these translation attempts: THESE TRANSLATIONS MAY NOT BE ACCURATE! I do not have a knowledge of Korean grammar though I really wish I did.

Corrections [[]] made 10/8/09.

LITTLE WINNERS 효연 (HyoYeon)
Source

Ipalcheongchoon, 16-year-old HyoYeon was in her second year of elementary school (quite the child;;) when [[she began taking Latin dance lessons and]] with an introduction from her Latin dance teacher she was let into the Winners School. [Trans. note: I think the first part of this next sentence says that HyoYeon was cast/scouted by SM because of her pictures on the Internet] . . . [and now] HyoYeon steadily traverses/travels between [기획사: SM? her hometown? I have no idea what this term is] and the Winners School to practice. [With] dark eyelashes, HyoYeon was impressive and the interview began. [Trans. note: I'm not sure about this last sentence.]

Wow. So I'd remembered recently that HyoYeon had been introduced to the hip-hop style and Winners through her Latin dance teacher but now we have an actual time period. [[No, but now we know when she formally started Latin dance lessons: 2nd grade!]] I knew that Hyo had joined Little Winners around 2000/2001, around the same time that she'd become an SM trainee, but what occurs to me only just now, really, is that Hyo had been doing pretty much Latin and perhaps jazz dance up until that period (7th, 8th grade?). Hyo is so embedded in my mind as a hip-hop dancer that I find it difficult to picture her getting her Latin dance on!

And not only that, but if I'm reading this correctly, HyoYeon joined Little Winners first and her involvement there possibly led to SM finding her. HyoYeon hasn't ever really talked explicitly about how she was scouted. Sica was spotted while shopping with her mother. SeoHyun was spotted on the subway/train. Like those two, HyoYeon also had to go to the SM offices to officially audition and we know now that Hyo was actually led to her audition by her mother, who was an H.O.T. fan, because HyoYeon herself didn't have an interest in being an entertainer. I always thought she was street-casted but maybe not? I wish I could understand that sentence better.

But this would explain a lot to me. 1) Winners came first so it wasn't SM's decision to enroll her there. Rather, the Winners Dance School was a recommendation from Hyo's other connections to the dance world. 2) SM wanted Hyo to continue cultivating what Winners could give her, i.e. a popping, locking, animation education. They themselves encouraged this course of her dance development by enrolling her in the boys' dance classes at SM.

This shows me, too, that being at Winners was something HyoYeon wanted herself. That is, once SM took her in, she could have decided that doing both was too much trouble but she stuck on attending training at both for years. Huh.

This may not be new to anyone else but I found it interesting! Of course, that all depends on whether or not my attempt to translate is correct, lol!

I think I'd befriend JoKwon.

...

Anyway.

While by your admittance they may not be 100 percent accurate, I still more than appreciate your attempt because quite honestly I'd probably end up blacklisted from soompi after harassing people to translate it for me. I wonder though, does SSF have a section where you can submit articles to be translated? I assume they'd be easier than translating videos since half the job isn't needed i.e timing, encoding, etc. I haven't been to the site myself though aside from checking out the collab section recently lol.

Anyway, this is definitely still very interesting. All the dancing we've seen from Hyo aside from that one show (Where american women spoke impressive korean) only showcased Hyo's hip hop dancing so to hear that she started with something else just adds that much more potential to her skill set. It's also interesting, or atleast in my mind, interesting to see that while Hyo herself said she had no intention of becoming an entertainer, she was still enrolled in a professional dance school. I mean sure some people join simply for the hobby, but at such a young age? I wonder who inspired her to start dancing in general or how that interest even began, unless her mom was also the reason for that since I had assumed she only encouraged her to join SM.

I am sure this has to be a sign of things to come! Sure of it! I'm taking this as an omen, this translated article, the possible reconnection with the Winners dance school on a professional level, this has to be something! I'm still positive that they wouldn't (curiously) switch out Yoona and Sooyoung if they didn't plan on focusing on dancing a bit more. IIRC Yuri also had a brief latinlike~ dance on Star King as well, and since what they did seemed choreographed, I love the idea that Hyo got her into the basics.

That, and I saw a bit of the Hanbok episode of HB and was infinitely amused with Hyo's comfortable brand of awkwardness lol. It reminds me of that dating scene she had in Horror Factory that I had to re-watch a few times. <3

Btw, off topic and to the left of the point, but I'm in love with this song:

I totally forgot Jo could sing.

LOL You definitely could call Jo interesting. At first his...flamboyant >_> nature kind of got on my nerves lol but I suppose it's an acquired taste because I daresay he's another one of my newly christened Korean brothers now, along with Wooyoung and Taemin.

Lol I saw a little bit more of the Hanbok episode because while it does annoy me that I can't understand what they're saying, the physical comedy keeps my attention lol. I wish the states would take on more of these types of shows that let you see your favorite singer/actress outside of a professional setting and see their more down-to-earth traits and personalities. I find a lot of countries seem to be open about their american influences but the american industry doesn't seem to be wanting to openly take hints from anyone else. D:

That, and I do agree Yoona hits her marks a bit harder but expressions are inconsistent. I was going over the MTV intro dances from way back when and Yoona looked good, but her moves were a little awkward but her expression wasn't bad. Sooyoung isn't really a hard dancer though she has swagger, so given that fact she did do pretty well with the choreography as of late. I don't know what to make of the switch either, personally. It may be just switching the girls out to experiment with how people react to seeing them a bit more in the spotlight, but it may also have something to do with Yoona's mysterious activity as of late.

That, and link time! The two versions of "Chocolate" are out! I thought I wasn't going to like SNSD' version because they called it "Cute" but I think I actually prefer it! D:
