Some of you might know the point-and-click adventure game The Longest Journey. It's old school puzzle solving with a pretty cool story, though April Ryan's snarky dialogue probably makes the game. I probably played it some summer ago within the past four years, I believe, and ever since I've had my eye on its sequel, Dreamfall, which I think was in development whenever I played the first game. The latter is startlingly different in gameplay, evolving from point-and-click into a kind of action adventure/point-and-click hybrid, which I kind of could have done without since there were a lot of insta-death moments. Anyway, now that I've played Dreamfall all I can say is:
F! F! F! I wish someone had told me that the game doesn't bother tying up all loose ends! F! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Really gr because I got all wrapped up in following all the developments between the first game and the second game, mainly what the heck happens to April Ryan, dammit! And all the other storylines???? GR!
Though to be honest, Dreamfall is more like watching a movie than playing a game--not in the way that Xenosaga was more like a playable cinema, but the game is much more focused on dialogue, which is voice acted, and letting events and discoveries unfold. There was a bit of glitchiness with the PC controls and it definitely took a little getting used to using the keyboard (fights always threw me off since I preferred using the WASD directional control to move around versus the arrows in those situations), but things ran pretty smoothly otherwise. But really...
There better be a friggin' Longest Journey 3/Dreamfall 2 in the works. GR!!!!
(*sigh* I might have to replay the first game... now I just have to find the discs.)
