Yay, USA! What a great match against Japan for the women's volleyball team! Too much sloppy passing though, leading to sloppy setting. D: Japan, though--what great defense! Some of those digs were very exciting and impressive. And LOL at their 5'3" setter who was trying to block the American women towering over her. The only name I recognize on the US team from last Olympics, though, is Logan Tom, despite the announcers saying that several of the US team members were Olympics vets. But . . . since when is Logan a girl's name? I probably wondered this exact same question last time. Every time I hear it I just think of Wolverine. Which isn't all that inappropriate because Logan Tom is pretty fierce on the court.
I love watching six-man volleyball. I know a lot of people prefer beach two-man, but six-man is just so exciting in its speed and teamwork. When the team is working well, it's a great thing to behold, and the hitting is hard and the blocks are awesome and the digs are crazy when you've got liberos splaying themselves all over the court and people running all the way behind the baseline to try and recover (and sometimes succeeding!). And the team members are usually all so excited and talkative (when things are going well). Volleyball is probably my family's unofficial sport; many of my family members in all the generations have played, men and women. In fact, I'm pretty sure my cousin met her husband at a volleyball tournament . . . that my family's team, composed of my sis and other cousins, got disqualified in. =/ I think it was a fluke in the registration. I totally wish I had been better at it, but I always felt like the weak link on a team, which is exactly why I tended to avoid team sports.
Oh, and apparently the women's fencing, sabre, just swept the medals. I didn't feel patient enough to wait for the swimming to come up . . . though I am interested in seeing how well Phelps will do in his bid for 8 medals.
When will the gymnastics be on???? *excited* Shawn Johnson is supposed to be the golden child of the women's gymnastics team, but I hear China has an excellent team this year. The team battle should be all sorts of exciting. :D
Oh, Olympics, you always make me wish I were 1000000000x more athletic than I am.
