Feb. 6th, 2012

I have been disappointed by quite a number of TV shows in the recent past. I plugged hard for Glee and watched it plummet into caricature and nonsensical story writing. I pined for Pushing Daisies and Life, only to dishearteningly watch each die after two seasons. I tuned into Once Upon a Time but found myself losing interest. I will probably finish all four seasons of Battlestar Galactica, but I am taking my time knowing that it is a show complete and that its entirety waits upon my leisure.

But I have been hearing about NBC's upcoming new TV drama Smash for quite some time and I discovered today that the full pilot episode is available for viewing at Hulu.com, not to mention iTunes, Amazon, etc. NBC is pumping a lot of money into this show.

And what I just saw sort of excites of me. I am cautiously excited, afraid to get my hopes up, but this is the stuff I love: take the musical production values of Glee, throw in a behind-the-scenes feel of a musical being made (including tensions between composers, choreographers, cast, etc.), throw in ambitions, fragile hopes, and jealousies as two actresses from completely different backgrounds compete for the lead role (ho yay?), and I may just be on board.

Ok, so maybe my nitpick is that I sat there wondering how some characters afforded their nice NYC pads. But if that's the only thing that's really going to bother me, hey, I can live with that. )

So. I'm on board for episode 2. Smash premiers tonight on NBC at 10pm EST/9pm CST, after The Voice. XD

You musical lovers, give it a try.
