In the typical random game of mad Internet link tag, I somehow ended up at interactive fiction text game Violet. I believe it went something like this: pondering YT subscriptions to Let's Play'ers → musing about Mass Effect 2 → TV Tropes' Mass Effect 2 page → TV Tropes' Gay Option page → Violet!
As you can see, I arrived at Violet because it was reported to have a gay option and I was intrigued and amused by the command to activate it: "heteronormativity off." XD (You can also type "female" but that's not as fun.) Not only is the command fun, but the response is spot on: "Welcome to the sisterhood. Of course, this makes citizenship questions more complicated if we end up deciding to get married." Quoted for truth.
The game itself is actually quite fun, even if at times the solutions are somewhat obscure (I used the "hint" option a few times). The premise is simple: you are a PhD. student with an Australian girlfriend. In recent months you have not been working on your dissertation and, having discovered that, your girlfriend of two years has given you an ultimatum: Write or say goodbye to her. Unfortunately, your grad student office is laced with a plethora of DISTRACTIONS derailing your attempts to write. Your task: get rid of your distractions and write your dissertation!
