I like this Lauren! Doctor, doctor! She's actually playful and teasing and flirty (and totally defensive about her right to be in Bo's life).

I haven't watched this episode yet of "Lost Girl" (S03E03: Confaegion), but I'm way excited to watch it later having skimmed it~!

I kind of fell into disinterest with "Lost Girl" during the end of Season 1 and didn't tune in much for Season 2. But revisiting it now, I'm impressed that Bo's sexuality and her . . . needs . . . are an underlying issue in the show and that the show doesn't side-step it. In fact, it draws attention to it by having outside parties point out the problems of a succubus-human monogamous relationship. That Bo's need for sexual energy and intimacy are two separate things that can go together, yes, but that will end up stressing any of her efforts to be monogamous. That she should choose monogamy with a human comes with even more problems that gives the relationship vulnerability in even more ways.

I think that monogamy thing is going to eventually go out the window because, hey, this is a succubus we're talking about and, in terms of show production values, it's pretty much the death knell of any show to settle on just one established relationship. In both the sense of Bo's character then and the needs of the show itself, the monogamy thing has to go out the window and subsequent arcs are going to have to focus on not just Bo juggling multiple emotionally deep, sexually intimate relationships (and on the non-sexual side, her friendship with Kenzi--and how Kenzi fits into Bo's love life as the cheerleader for Team Dyson and the antagonist for Team Lauren), but her partners being okay with sharing Bo, whether that's Lauren and Dyson (and, yes, Kenzi) learning to be okay with both of them being equal in Bo's affections, or Lauren and/or Dyson being okay with Bo having flings on the side.

Because the show has stepped into openly antagonistic grounds between Lauren and Dyson over Bo already. Season 1 had Dyson sniping at Lauren for various reasons, one of which being Bo's attraction to the human doctor. Season 3 clearly opens up with Lauren putting Dyson down: "You can do better[, Bo]." This is probably gonna end up untenable to Bo, really, who cares about both of them to great degrees, especially as someone who couldn't have intimate relationships with people prior to gaining control of her powers and now has (at least) two people she really wants to be with. I hope that the show does bring the relationship around to a point where monogamy isn't the answer for Bo--and it would be really nice if it does it with a minimum of drama, but we know that won't be the case XD--and that the show balances these conflicts with character growth. Because how rare is it that we get not only a bisexual character on TV, but one who engages in polyamory that's shown in a positive, respectful light? (I've been trying to play catch up and watch Season 2 and I was really struck by the moment when Bo finds out about Nadia. Bo had the self-awareness to question if she had the right to be angry even considering that she and Lauren had slept together the night before and Lauren had more or less demanded that that not be about "Bo getting over Dyson." The complexity of this set up is surprisingly layered because Bo's relationships tend to be on a sliding scale of casual/open vs. exclusive. Bo was basically wondering if she could be angry at someone with whom she hasn't expressly entered into a "relationship" because, lol, Bo certainly goes around feeding off of people not named Lauren or Dyson throughout Season 2!)

It's nice that the show forces everyone to interact with everyone else as well creating a cluster mess of dynamics. Skimming Season 3, episode 3 (because I was too tired to watch it at the time), I see that the show again addresses the antagonism between Kenzi and Lauren. This has been brought up several times throughout the show. I think Kenzi often comes off as a bit of a jerkass and over-the-top in her indignation on the topic of Bo and Lauren being romantically involved, but I can also completely understand her wariness regarding Lauren--because, let's face it, Lauren has done some completely jerkass things in her relationship ("relationship"?) with Bo. Some Season 2 bits have made me go, "Really, Lauren? Really?" and made me wonder if the writing was just forcing out drama by using questionable character content.

But I suppose it's hard for anyone to point fingers on a show where the main protognist's sexual relations are so fluid and whose primary love interests have had such colorful histories and love interests of their own. Bo constantly struggles herself to accept that the loves of her life have their own feelings and their own lives--her insistence that Lauren is "no one's property" and that Dyson doesn't love her anymore and that he has rekindled a relationship with his old flame--and that's some really heavy stuff for any show, particularly one that's got a monster-of-the-week formula!

If the show keeps the dynamics compelling--and the Bo/Lauren central--I'll gladly return to watching.

ETA: AHAHAHAHA, S03E03 "Confaegion" was such a fun episode! I have to hand it to Anna Silk (Bo), Kris Holden-Ried (Dyson), and Rachel Skarsten (Tamsin) for making it look so fun. Bo got some especially choice lines ("Wow, you are really hot, have you ever kissed a girl?" "Take two frownie brownies and call me in the morning!" "That was so dope, let's do it again.") and Dyson is actually really cute as a dork, while Zoie Palmer (Lauren) and Ksenia Solo (Kenzi) had to drag up all the drama with all that silliness going on in the background. XD I watched S02E09 "Original Skin" today, too, and I can easily see why these are fan favorites, with "Original Skin" a hilarious exercise in the actors having to adopt each other's mannerisms.
