Even From Me by Kanundrum (@fanfiction.net, "Lost Girl")

I love this fic. I like this fic so much that I finished it, drifted off in a daze and puttered around other parts of the fandom, and found myself wanting to just go back and snuggle with this fic.

And it hurts my teeny tender heart that it is an incomplete dead fic. Hurts.

*sighs*

But despite the story having been left hanging right at the cusp of its climax--*snicker*--I love every beat of those 17 completed chapters. It's like a box of "Lost Girl" joy, capturing a lot of the spirit, tone, atmosphere, hijinks, and tensions of the original series. In the scope of canon, it's a post-Season 1 AU, but it's so good.

The prose and dialogue are light, zippy, zingy, fast-paced, spot on, and with an extra pinch of out-of-the-box thinking that adds to the dimensions of the world but doesn't stick out like extraneous showy bells and whistles (one of the lines that made me laugh out loud in delight occurs in chapter 2: "[Bo] wasn't used to seeing someone display such a lack of desire for her. Hell, even the stooped and hostile grandmothers at the Asian market flashed a little twinkle when Bo smiled at them." Because, yes). The pace zooms along at a brisk jog, not dwelling too long on any spot of angst but setting the development to light simmer and letting things come to a steady boil. The plot itself is intriguing, and the character growth here is not only consistent with the characterization seen in Season 1, but in parts even more delicious than what the show gave us in Season 2.

Well, if you were rooting for Bo/Lauren; not so much if you wanted Bo/Dyson. (And I have to admit that I liked the idea of a Lauren that might have maybe flirted with more of her patients than just Bo. Five years is a long time. Y'know.)

Though if you were rooting for an ending, there isn't one to find here. ;_; How do people deal with dead fic?
