Hi-5 w/SNSD ep. 47 - Ballerinas [03.30.08]: Part 1: 1, 2, 3, 4; Part 2: 1, 2, 3, 4
--This is . . . too funny. I cannot count the number of times I laughed out loud or felt embarrassment for the participants. The hilarity comes mainly from the Hi-5 group and the huge disparity in age and physical prowess between the youngsters and the middle-aged comediennes and the host. I am seriously growing a soft spot for Park Kyung-Lim, who has also had SNSD on her show "Wonderful Outing". The match-up was unfair from the outset, though, as I believe many of the SNSD members have had basic ballet during their trainee days--and, if not, they're dancers! Of course they keep themselves limber!

Hi-5 w/SNSD EP. 51 - Animal Trainers [04.27.08]: 1, 2, 3, 4
--SNSD is only in the first three parts, but this proves that not only would clubbing be fun with these girls (you can see a clearer clip of this in the reality show "Factory Girl" in which the girls interned at ELLE Girl Korea. Yes, you read that correctly), but they love their thrill rides and amusement parks (and are also shameless--while no one could beat Park Kyung-Lim's lipstick job, TaeYeon's was pretty "good" too)! Awesome! Again, the hilarity comes from the contrast between Hi-5's absolute fear and SNSD's absolute enjoyment. If you need further proof of SNSD's love of rollercoasters, you need only check out TaeYeon's MTV episode from around the time of their debut (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6--sorry, Vietnamese subs; you can find the first part with English subs but not the second part). The only ones not as into the thrill-ride seeking are YuRi and SeoHyun, but even SeoHyun looked like she was beginning to enjoy it by the end. I love how Team Jessica, Tiffany, YoonA immediately goes "Screw this whole 'mission' thing. We're going to ride what we want to ride!"

Maybee's Volume Up Radio [01.29.09]: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
--You can always tell when the girls are comfortable and/or familiar with a host because they become very candid. Too many funny things here, from SooYoung's opening annoyance with the scriptwriter and the embarrassment of old epithets (when did they stop using those?), to Sunny's aegyo, YuRi once again being called out for strange behavior, public displays of affection, HyoYeon scaring all her housemates when she's angry (apparently you shouldn't jokingly bully this girl, especially not on her birthday--LOL, I love SooYoung's telling of the story), and SeoHyun probably being groomed to be the member that snaps and murders her fellow members. She may seem like the sweetest thing since caramelized sugar, but I've noticed a pattern in which SeoHyun rarely ever gets to speak for herself--the combination of shyness + eight "older sisters" willing to speak for her, especially her older-by-a-scant-year "mom" SooYoung? Funny how they all scold Tiffany for her hastiness in answering (Sunny's all: "You could at least to pretend to think!").

In other news, books! My last trip to the library inadvertently resulted in every book having heavy subtext! Some I knew had subtext, while the others surprised me: Is this a femmeslashy sixth sense? Subtext!: N.P., Down to the Bone, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, the Painter from Shanghai plus non-library bonus The Historian and Stealing Buddha's Dinner )
