I've been thinking about Mai-Otome. (The anime, not the manga, two completely separate beasts.) This was due to a series of unfortunate events that I can actually pretty clearly trace: Reading fanfic for nostalgic old RPGs → thinking about FF7 → being piqued by an Aeris & Tifa cosplaying secret at fandom secrets that spurred discussion about the two's interaction in the game and a comment about fanart at pixiv → falling into the pit of looking at endless fanart on pixiv ;_; → mentioning my hours-eating dilemma to ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
viliscp, who then mentioned that there's Mai-HiME fanart there as well → succumbing to the temptation to look at said Mai-HiME fanart and being reminded how, yes, cute ShizNat can be together . (Ok, that last one, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.) Can't forget the gaynst. Oh, the gaynst.
And y'all know how much time I once spent pondering ShizNat. But this time I pondered Mai-Otome. Because, c'mon, Kruger and Viola are cute too.
Mai-Otome is an interesting beast. It's not a sequel (though speculation is rampant that Mai-Otome does take place in some far distant future of the Mai-HiME universe, which . . . yeah). However it was deliberately crafted to pander to the Mai-HiME fandom and establish its own core of new protagonists (Arika, Nina, and the expy'd but very changed Mashiro). Without sacrificing much of the original cast of Mai-HiME. Somehow.
( A block of text in which I muse and ponder and try to apply logic where no logic wants to wander. There be SPOILERS. )

Mar. 29th, 2011 12:18 amOriginally I looked into how epub files were made because I didn't realize that the magic powers of calibre would be able to take care of all the conversion troubles for you. But I thought it was interesting how easy it is to make your own epub files. So, for shits and giggles:

Actually, I was going to put the Drabbles, "Orbiting," "A Tangential Affair," and "A Crossroads Schemata" all in one file (because they can be all read together though not necessarily have to be read together--i.e. I have a feeling the last two would be happily ignored . . . XD--and these are probably the fics that define me as a fanfic writer to others), but I realized I'mma have to do a lot of coding to do that (only if I don't want to short cut it using the magic of calibre). First, I want to apologize if I haven't gotten around to responding to any comments left in the past few days. I've been sort of stewing on things and so I haven't had the brain capacity to approach the more serious comments with the amount of attention and thought that they deserve. (I kind of have that "Whoa, drained" feeling that I was left with after some of the furious discussions we've had over at the comm.) But know that I do read every comment (even if you comment on a post months old) and that I appreciate every comment I get. And thanks to people who have kept the conversations going on their own!
So, for a change of pace, OPEN THREAD. Also, why do I keep reading the latest Naruto chapters in the hopes that someone will die when I know perfectly well that no one is going to die at all? It'd be so awesome if Naruto or Sasuke ended up killing Sakura or something. That would be ANGST worthy. Also, Sai is annoying and cliche. *barfs*
FMA chapter, please to be coming out soon, thanks. (And don't forget to include Hawkeye! The State Alchemists are all well and good, but, Arakawa, you know we're all dying to know Hawkeye's backstory now. *drool*)

It's just definitive proof that Natsuki Kruger =/= Kuga Natsuki. Wow. What a different personality. So this is what Kuga might've been if she hadn't had all that crap with her mother and the First District hanging over her head. It's really funny to hear Natsuki getting all "onee-sama"y and "gokigenyou"y and formal and flustered. I mean, she was even like "She remembered my name!!" when Shizuru addresses her, LMAO. Just WOW, what a change. Shizuru's fan, huh, Natsuki? AHAHAHAHAHA. What a change! ... So what happened????? (Did she seduce Shizuru? Did she just grow out of her crush and fangirlism? Is Shizuru --> Natsuki really the issue in MO or what!? And are things about Tomoe's strange complex being explained???)
And can I just say, Natsuki is like, "Mai, I believe we'll meet again"--so why the heck was their meeting so anticlimactic?!
